Searching for a product to remove a stain usually means the problem has been there a while. The key is knowing what kind of stain it is before buying anything.
Why outdoor floors stain so much in Gran Canaria
Calima, salt air, damp, strong sun and permanent outdoor use all combine. Each leaves a different kind of mark and needs a different product.
Identify the stain first
- Calima: an even orange-grey veil that comes back with every episode.
- Algae: green or black patches in damp, shaded areas.
- Salt: white marks that reappear after drying.
- Oil and grease: dark patches with defined edges on driveways and barbecue areas.
- Rust: orange marks under furniture, pots or railings.
- Damage: worn or eroded surfaces that no product can fix.
The usual products
Algae removers and biocides, degreasers, salt neutralisers, rust removers and alkaline cleaners. All of them must be tested on a hidden area first, and acids must never be used on limestone, marble or cement joints.
When to call a professional
When the stain has been there for years, covers a large area, keeps coming back or you don't know what the material is. A wrong product can turn a stain into permanent damage.
